Canyonville Historical Society

Yesterday We hosted the Canyonville Historical Society for their annual fall meeting. It was so wonderful to have so many folks in the old house.
This event was the idea of Jennene Johns who thought it would be good to bring the two historical Societies together. It ws a fun time.
Jennene and Ceil Booth made sure the old house was at it's cleanest best. Betty Fisher brought beautiful Mums for the tables, which along with the chairs and sound system were brought in by Andy Owens. Marian Owens also helped to set up. The meeting was preceded by a great potluck. We hope to host other meetings in the future.

Don't forget we have our own meeting this Wed. the 9th at 10:00am @ the Springer/Martin house on Azalea Glen rd. Hope to see you there.

I am so happy to report that the Country BBQ and Car Show was a success. We made $2,220.00. The money will help pay for insurance and power bills for the next year. I really appreciate everyone who helped out. The day before the BBQ we preped the food at the high school. It was fun vistiting with everyone while we worked. We couldn't have asked for better weather the day of the BBQ.
The car show was a big hit. Thank you to everyone who brought your car or pickup to share. Thank you also for the ideas you shared for making next years even better.

Getting ready for the BBQ

Had a pre workday, workday. Although I missed out on much of it. Ceil Booth along with Andy & Marian Owens cleaned the chuck wagon and mowed the lawns. Whew! Marian (mom to me)& I spent time taking out yellowjacets & hornet nests. Cranky critters. They can so put a crimp in a bbq.
CCHS held a meeting on wed. it was well attended. We plan to have a work time at the high school on Sat. morning Sept 10th to prepare food for Sundays BBQ. Will set up for the BBQ early Sunday morning.
Hope to see you all on Sunday Sept. 11th between 1-4.

Weddings, reunions & such

Friends of CCHS,

As I mentioned on my last posting the economy has brought our restoration work if not to a stand still , to at least a crawl.

We need to make money. One of the ways we are exploring is to open up the grounds for events such as weddings, reunions and anniversary partys. We don't have a fee schedule as of yet but are working out the details and hope to open up for events as early as next summer.

Keep us in mind. If you have questions one way to get them answered is to attend one of our monthly meeetings. Held every second wed. @ 10.00am @ the Springer/Martin house 7331 Azalea Glen rd. Glendale.
We are having a special meeting Wed. Aug.31st at 10.00a.m. to discuss the BBQ. We need volunteers to help with the BBQ.

Come by, see if we might be the place you want to say I do.

Kathy Martin
CCHS Pres.

Hi from new president & Country BBQ

Members & Friends of CCHS,

After many years of work & dedication our President Lynn Diltz resigned due to family needs. I would like to thank her for all her hard work. I only hope that I can follow in her foot steps.

I have a personal connection with the house. My GreatGrandParents, GrandParents, Mom & Aunt moved into the house in the early 1940's. I probably spent as much time there as I did at home growing up. It is so great to see all the restoration work that has thus far been done.

Unfortunately the economy has brought further progress to a stand still. For now.
We are having a fund raiser Sunday Sept 11, 2011 @ the old house. Our Country BBQ will be from 1-4. $12.00 for Adults. $5.00 ages 5-12 years. We will be serving tri-tip, chicken, and all the fixens. We are also having an invatational car show @ the same time. If you want to bring your car call Andy Owens @ 541-218-0417. Hope to see you.
Kathy Martin President CCHS
